ARE YOU ONE OF THESE?

Poor Time Management

You may be uncertain of your priorities, goals and objectives. You may also be overwhelmed with the task. As a result, you keep putting off your academic assignments for a later date, or spending a great deal of time with your friends and social activities, or worrying about your upcoming examination, class project and papers rather than completing them.

 Difficulty Concentrating

When you sit at your desk you find yourself daydreaming, staring into space, looking at pictures of your boyfriend/girlfriend, etc., instead of doing the task.

Fear and Anxiety

You may be overwhelmed with the task and afraid of getting a failing grade. As a result, you spend a great deal of time worrying about your upcoming exams, papers and projects, rather than completing them.

Negative Beliefs such as; "I cannot succeed in anything" and "I lack the necessary skills to perform the task" may allow you to stop yourself from getting work done.

HOW DO WE OPERATE?

Our main focus is to help our students manage their personal situation in relation to their studies.

We offer help mainly in 2 ways:

  • Individual counselling sessions for personal problems
  • Academic support through group sessions.

Helping our students succeed has helped us in identifying the most common obstacles to their success. To provide the best opportunities to meet the challenges of college life, we provide a consultation on topics such as:

Learning Skills

These are available to help students with personal, academic, and career concerns. Students coming to see me are usually seeking more effective and rewarding lives by confronting personal problems, career questions, skill development issues, or value questions.

I generally offer a wide variety of groups and workshops. These include general counselling and therapy groups and special topic and population groups designed to help students deal with common problems. Other groups and workshops such as confidence, assertion, and stress management are designed to improve specific skills.

 Time Management Skills

Setting Goals and Priorities is vital to achieve good results and I hold regular seminars on the subject to help students organise themselves in a more efficient way.

 Confidence Group

I offer groups specifically designed for people who struggle with confidence with specific subjects. At the moment we only have 2 groups: Maths and English. These groups have helped numerous students to become more confident in their abilities. The groups are not tutoring programmes. We help students overcome their psychological barriers to doing well in these specific courses. By attending all of the sessions and following the suggestions of the group leaders, the students could expect to gain the following:

  • Replace negative self-talk with more positive, confident self-talk
  • Better time management skills
  • Improved study habits
  • Stress management and relaxation techniques
  • Creative suggestions for overcoming blocks
  • Learn about resources available for improving their skills
  • Support from group leaders and others experiencing similar struggles

Career Planning and Clarification

Do you have doubts about which College programme or career field to choose?

We assist students in choosing the right programme and we also help in career exploration and planning. Many resources are available to help in planning for a career including vocational testing.
